coworking at christmas

Christmas is arriving and it is officially time to celebrate! The trick is to now make sure you have a bit of fun within your workplace as the festive clock counts down and maintain a stress free Christmas coworking environment for yourself, regardless of how many chaotic shopping trips you may have to partake in! We know that even though it is a coworking space and may not have the rigidity of a traditional office, leading up to the holidays it can feel very much the same anyway.

So how can you enjoy a stress free coworking environment? Now I know putting baileys in your coffee every morning should be legally acceptable from December 1st, sadly this may greatly affect your productivity. So what can you do instead to add that little bit of festive fun.

GIVE YOURSELF DEADLINES

It can be tempting to cram a year’s worth of work into the week running up to Christmas but creating a schedule and sticking to it is key to avoiding adding mountains of stress to the already manic time that is Christmas.

Coworking allows specifically for flexible working hours, make use of this! Spend some time with your fellow co-workers spreading the festive cheer. Say yes to that invitation for a coworking Christmas meal or get together, it can make all the difference to you and your productivity.

ENERGY SLUMPING?

We all know the drill, days get shorter, the sun sets earlier and earlier and sometimes this can have a really negative impact on our mood. The lack of sunlight results in a lack of serotonin – that all important happy hormone – and whilst trying to create the perfect Christmas in your personal life and balance all of your pre-Christmas work obligations, self care can get lost along the way!

Planning ahead and more importantly realistically is such a must at this time of the year. Concentrate on the most important things and let the rest go for now. You’re already fighting your own body chemistry, you don’t need to go to war with your diary as well!

WORK/LIFE BALANCE

Everyone knows that the festive period is a social time! Now more than ever that work/life balance is easily put in jeopardy. There are about a million to-do lists floating around and no one place to start. Remember that coworking is all about community. Don’t be afraid to ask those around for help if you are struggling and offering the same to those around you.

Again the best way to beat a to-do list is to prioritise and plan ahead. It can be a lifesaver to let go of those few things that you have told yourself you ‘absolutely need to get done’ before Christmas, when in reality they aren’t a really pressing issue!
